Simon Jones – Senior Physiologist (Onsite Projects)
I joined Nuffield Health in April 2007 as a Health and Wellbeing
Physiologist. I initially worked as a mobile physiologist, which
gave me the experience of working within a wide number of Hospitals
and wellbeing centres, ranging from big multi-disciplinary flagship
hospitals to stand alone health screening centres.
Working as a mobile Physiologist allowed me to build
relationships with other colleagues from sites up and down the
country and made the mobile aspect of my job really
enjoyable.
To work as a Health and Wellbeing Physiologist for Nuffield
Health a background in Physiology is obviously essential. It is
just as important to realise that this job also involves
interpersonal skills and I enjoy the fact that I have an
opportunity to help people to improve their health and wellbeing
through my work.
My educational background includes a BSc in Sport and Exercise
Science, in addition to corporate experience in the fitness
industry. I have experience in prescribing advanced exercise
programmes to people of all ages and fitness levels and I was also
a corporate fitness centre manager before moving into
physiology.
I joined Nuffield Health to challenge myself and ensure that I
utilise the knowledge developed in my degree to the best of my
ability. Whilst working within a hospital environment I've used
cutting edge health screening equipment to gather information on
the health of clients. This makes the job extremely interesting and
enjoyable and gives you the right tools to ensure that you can
tailor the lifestyle advice given to clients.
My current role with Nuffield Health is as an on-site
physiologist. This involves working within an external company
delivering health assessments, seminars and health interventions to
the staff. This is an extremely varied role that helps me to
develop my skills as a physiologist, whilst giving me further
experience within a corporate environment. For example, one day I
can be performing seminars on Blood Pressure or Stress management
to office staff, then the next I can be delivering tailored health
assessments to staff within a power station.
As the field of physiology progresses within Nuffield Health
more opportunities are rapidly being developed making it an
exciting place to work. I also have the benefit of an excellent CPD
programme to ensure that my skills and knowledge are constantly
kept at an extremely high level.
