Huw - Lead CT Superintendent, Mobile Services

"I joined Nuffield Health as a Radiographer at the brand new Manor Hospital when it opened in November 2004. My additional expertise in CT was quickly recognised and after just four months I became Lead Radiographer for the new CT service within the hospital. Then three and a half years later, I joined the team to set up a Mobile CT unit for the West Midlands area and even went to Holland to see the state-of-the-art trailer being built! It just shows that if you prove yourself, you can progress fast.

I was recently promoted to Lead CT Superintendent for Mobile Services across the Midlands region. That's a brand new role which in itself is a challenge.

When you join Nuffield Health, one thing you notice straight away is that everyone is very welcoming. That goes for the management as well as colleagues in the department. Plus there are less lines of communication than you would expect in a large organisation so it's far easier to put your ideas forward and get decisions. I've never known anywhere with such a close-knit team and superb environment - the Mobile Unit has the latest equipment and has all the comfort and décor of one of our modern hospitals.

One of the things that attracted me to Nuffield in the first place was the good range of benefits. For instance, the free health insurance has been invaluable. I fractured my knee skiing earlier this year and I was looked after extremely well. In fact, it made an interesting change to see the hospital from a patient's point of view.

The demand for Mobile CT for Nuffield Health is increasing fast, so there will be various routes open to me within Nuffield in the longer term either in a static role or a mobile role."
