An Interview with Carrie Morris, Senior Sales Executive in Plymouth Fitness & Wellbeing Gym

We interviewed Carrie, our Senior Sales Executive in our Plymouth Fitness & Wellbeing Gym. Read more for an insight into Carrie's career journey and for some insight into a day in the life of a Senior Sales Executive with us.

 

How long have you worked at Nuffield Health?

'I have worked at Nuffield Health for 1 year and 10 months.'

 

What attracted you to your first job here?

'Initially, I came in looking to join the Nuffield Health gym as a member but I got talking to a member of staff about my current job. At the time, I was an assistant manager for EE and I had been for the past 11 years. Kevin, the member of staff serving me, was trying to get me to apply for DM but that wasn't something that I was interested in.'

However, a few days later, he called me and told me that he had a Senior Sales job going. After looking on Nuffield Health's site and learning more about the company, I thought this would be a great change and challenge for me.'

 

What do you enjoy most about sales?

‘Personally, I love a challenge and I’m always aiming to achieve more than my set target. It’s great that every customer is different, and I love having conversations with them and being able to follow that customer journey. The best part of my job is seeing the whole gym become successful and hit their targets, as a team.

For a customer journey to be right, and for someone to sign up to Nuffield Health, everyone has to play their part, so you have to be able to work well within a team.'

 

What does being a Sales Executive mean to you?

‘Being a Sales Executive means a lot as I really do love my job and the challenges I face. What makes it different is that no day is the same, so I love being able to help and support members to achieve their goals and help the staff to achieve their targets.

My main aim as a Sales Executive is to be ‘Top Sales’ for my region and to be successful at what I do.’

 

Tell us about a typical day in your job?

‘It’s true that no day is the same in this role but, typically I will always start my day with a coffee to get myself ready for a busy day. I will then work out where the club and I are in terms of hitting our targets and what needs to be done in order to achieve run rate. Normally, I will have a catch up with my Deputy Manager and put a plan together before getting on with various tasks; calling prospects, meeting and greeting new customers, completing tours and sign-ups, supporting other staff with sales plus outreaching for events or corporates, depending what’s coming up on the calendar.

We all have bad days, but I can honestly say I love the team I work with. My Deputy Manager Daniel Lewis always allows me to see the best in myself and he never gives up on me. My Manager Simon Jones has a tough job managing our team, but he does a great job and I have a lovely reception team who always make me smile and support me.’

 

Do you have any key achievements that you'd like to share?

‘One of my key achievements was a fundraising event, which we ran for a poorly little boy called Olly McKay, and we managed to raise over £4000. Fundraising is very close to my heart as I have a younger sister, who was very poorly when she was younger, and she suffered a brain tumour which meant that she lost sight in one eye and part of her sight in the other eye. My sister turns 40 this year and, whilst she is still very poorly, she has beaten all the odds.

My other key accomplishment was hitting my targets for 10 out of 12 months last year, which I’m really proud of.’

 

What do you inspire to be?

'One day, I would love to be a trainer for Sales, if the opportunity arose.'

 

For someone looking to be a Sales Executive, do you have any advice or top tips?

‘My main piece of advice is that you need to be a positive person. This role can be tough, especially as it can be very busy, but you need to be able to keep going and stay motivated. However, when you hit your targets it is a great sense of achievement. Team work is definitely a key to success and it’s important to just be you.

What do you enjoy the most about working for Nuffield Health?

‘Overall, I love how everyone is so friendly and there are so many great benefits. Mainly, I love working within my team at the Nuffield Gym, on the barbican, and attending events. My role allows me to meet loads of new people and I have also enjoyed working with Nuffield Health and Devonshire Plymouth on different events.’

 

The professional and personal wellbeing of our staff is important to us. How do you benefit from a work life balance with us?

‘It can be very tough to find that work life balance as you always want to do more and achieve more, but you do need some time to relax. It’s very easy to put more time into your job but this last year has made me see that you need to make time for yourself and those around you, as life is too short, and you can still achieve your goals if you believe in yourself.

Without everyone at the Nuffield Gym on Barbican working together, we would not be where we are, and I can honestly say that every team member has supported and helped me massively. I would like to thank them for all that they have done for me, it’s brilliant to work here!’
