Hospital Sterile Services Units (HSSU)
It’s an exciting time to be joining the HSSU team. Over the last 5 years Nuffield HSSU has developed a great reputation in the market for constantly improving the service we offer and hence the safety of patient care to both our internal and external customers. And, with a major refurbishment investment programme and 5-year plan in place, our goal is to build on our considerable success and continue expanding. That’s why we’re looking for more highly motivated individuals to become vital, valued members of our growing team.
Our national network of six centralised HSSUs serves all Nuffield Health hospitals, plus over 30 external customer locations, including NHS Trusts. These specialised units are state of the art, purpose-built facilities, cleaning and sterilising hospital theatre equipment in compliance with EU and Department of Health standards.
Located at Wetherby, Tiverton, Cambridge, Warwick, Stoke and Eastleigh, each unit serves a local cluster of hospitals.
With over 600,000 trays and 14 million instruments processed every year, the HSSUs provide employment for more than 200 staff across a variety of roles:
Maintaining accredited quality standards and ensuring customer satisfaction, the Unit Manager uses their extensive management experience in Leadership and Technical ability to head up a highly trained workforce of processing staff. Meanwhile, a Production Manager needs both extensive sterile services experience and sound decontamination experience and qualifications.
Maintaining and testing the machines involved in the decontamination process, this is a highly skilled role requiring specialised training.
Production Team Leader
Supervising shifts, allocating work and ensuring standards are maintained, this role requires experience of processing and sterile services, and demonstrable team leading skills.
Our Lead Technicians and Process Technicians are skilled in processing surgical instruments, and uphold rigid safety and quality procedures throughout the decontamination process.
Provided with full training on the use of tachographs and ADR, our Driver/Technicians are ambassadors of the HSSU, ensuring that instruments are delivered and collected at customer sites according to specific requirements.
Logistics Team Leader
Supervising the driving team, Logistics Team Leader ensures that delivery schedules are met. They also manage vehicle maintenance and compliance with driving regulations.
To ensure we continue to meet our high standards, our Quality Co-ordinators have a keen eye for detail, strong IT skills, and the support of an accurate Administrator.
Our Cleaners follow strict safety guidelines to maintain a clinically clean working environment, critical to maintaining our exceptional standards of infection prevention and control.
