We interviewed Dennis Bicheno, who’s based in our Chigwell gym and has been with us for 13 years, to find out what it’s like to be a Building Services Engineer at one of our gyms.
What attracted you to your first job here?

What do you enjoy most about your role?
A fun, safe and friendly place to work in makes you CARE about the work you do to give a 1st class facility for staff and members alike.
Tell us about a typical day in your job?
Open the building then complete the daily checks and building walk. Action any high priority jobs. Then get stuck into some Planned Preventative Maintenance or reactive works.
Attend any meetings as required and interact with all departments. Complete the evening checks before heading off home.
Do you have any key achievements that you’d like to share?
Training is very good, I have competed some very interesting and useful courses throughout my time here.
For someone looking to be a Building Services Engineer, do you have any advice or top tips?
Keep an open mind as the diversity of work can be challenging yet rewarding. Take time to understand the nature of the business and environment by completing the member journey yourself. Attend regular meetings to showcase your department and become an important member of the Head of department team.
