Considering our Preceptorship programme? Read our interview with Emily in Glasgow to get an insight into her Preceptee experience with us at Nuffield Health.
‘I had an interview with the Nuffield during my consolidation placement with Nursing, and it was then discussed about the Preceptorship Programme. Honestly, I didn’t know much about what it involved. I met with one of the previous preceptees at my workplace and she told me it was well worthwhile for extra support and guidance.
From living in Glasgow I have always been the furthest travelled to the residential modules, and it has always been enjoyable visiting areas of England where I wouldn’t necessarily visit. I have liked going to other Nuffield hospitals and comparing them to my own – like the use of the new online patient records which I am looking forward to welcoming in the near future.’
Working in private healthcare can be a big step for some prospective clinical employees, what would you advise them about the differences and / or benefits?
‘This question really triggered a memory! I was advised against going in to private healthcare by many nurses I worked with during my final placement. I was told I would have a lot heavier workload, less benefits in terms of maternity, sick pay etc. And being told ‘no’ to something made me want to do it more. I had already accepted the job at this point and was made to stress and cry rather than celebrate securing my first full-time job!!!!
I believe the preceptorship programme has gave me that little boost and morale for being a newly qualified nurse. Don’t get me wrong it has been hard work transitioning from student to Registered nurse, especially in an area like theatre, but not something that I haven’t enjoyed doing.’
