Food and beverage is a growing line of business across a number of our locations, providing our members, guests, patients and team with great value, healthy food and drink options. Whether they are using our fitness and wellbeing centres or being treated in one of our hospitals, food and beverage is part of their Nuffield Health experience.
The in house cafés within our gyms provide members with a place to relax, refuel and socialise; always at the heart of the club, helping us create a great social and community feeling within the club. In our hospitals, we strive to deliver excellent meal options to patients, enhancing their overall experience, as well as catering for the large onsite teams.
Inspiring chefs across our hospitals
Our hospital food and drink menu range is a far cry from the usual hospital food and patients can even order refreshments for their visitors. Sodexo, our third party provider of these services, strive to deliver first class catering. The teams have strong patient satisfaction levels – hitting an all-time high of 95% last month.
To inspire and educate our talented chef’s, a handful were invited to the intersegment Sodexo ‘Salon Culinaire’ cooking competition at Ascot racecourse. An annual event in which more than 800 competitors go head-head in various cooking competitions, demonstrating their skills across a range of categories.
Craig French from Warwick Hospital, David Moorhouse and Everton James – both from Leeds Hospital cooked a three course meal live in front of an audience, against the clock and against nine other teams. May Anne Jackson, also from Leeds Hospital, competed in the service skills challenge.
Barry Mattinson, Supplier Relationship Manager supporting the team said: “It’s pretty nerve wracking cooking live but each year our Nuffield Health Team gets a little bit more experienced and hopefully soon we’ll get in the medal hunt. The team put in a huge amount of their own time and commitment and did a grand job.”
Rolling out our services to our new gyms
Across all 111 clubs we offer some kind of food and beverage provision which varies by club. From simple coffee pods to the fully serviced cafés, all operated and managed by the team in house.
As part of the transition of the 35 new clubs, 15 teams have been on extensive new menu training courses and five have moved from having a third party service to bring the team and services in-house.
All the new 35 clubs will also have completed the Nuffield Barista training course by mid-December.

In 2017 we are adding a massive amount of new menus and products to the offer, with more training and support on and off site so we can deliver the best possible offer to our members and team on site. Including a range of dishes linked to the Nuffield Health core values around Nutrition, giving us the freshest, healthiest and most nutritional offer possible.
