Health Care Assistant Pre-Assessment - Bank

Nuffield Health Highgate Hospital | Pre-Assessment | Bank ADHOC | Phlebotomy skills are essential

Who is Britain’s largest Healthcare Charity? We are. Through our award-winning hospitals and leisure facilities, we’re looking after the nation’s health like no-one else. We’ll give you more time to care and get to know your patients and their families.

Pre Assessment is a vital part of our nursing care as it assesses suitability for general anaesthetic and/or sedation as well as understanding any pre-existing health conditions patients may have to ensure surgery can be completed safely. As a Healthcare Assistant in our Pre Assessment department, you will work closely with our nurses who will perform pre-operative assessments, involving taking a full medical/nursing and social history. Routine observations are recorded such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height and weight. On occasion an electrocardiogram (ECG) may also need to be performed, and Phlebotomy skills are essential! You will be qualified to NVQ Level 2 and ideally have or be working towards level 3. Relevant experience in a hospital is a must!

As a Pre-Assessment Health Care Assistant, you will:

  • Have previous work experience taking blood
  • Fully understand and support the needs of each patient and their family
  • Offer comfort and reassurance, providing the highest standards of care
  • Build your experience across new practices, equipment and facilities
  • Work with practitioners in other areas, understanding that continuity in patient care is key
  • Be ECG and phlebotomy trained
  • Be part of a close-knit team
  • Carry out administrative duties

Helping you feel good

We want you to love coming to work, feeling healthy, happy and valued. That’s why we’ve developed a benefits package with you in mind. From Holiday in line with the Working Time Directive, access to our Pension Scheme and discounted gym membership at £35.00 a month.

Working on the bank means you are not contracted to a set number of hours per week but instead work on an ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and your availability.

So, if they see that you’ve got the right sort of skills and experience needed for the role, your details will be passed on to the relevant hiring manager. Then, if you fit all the criteria at this stage, you’ll be invited to take part in a video, telephone or face-to-face interview.

CV

Think about the skills and qualities asked for in the job description and show how you’ve applied those same skills and qualities in other roles. Focus on the things that will make us want to see more of you.

Covering email

Your CV will contain details about why you’d be a good fit for the role, but it’s well worth adding a short, snappy paragraph pulling out the two or three most compelling reasons as to why you’d be perfect for the job in your covering email..

Video interview

The video interview lasts 15-20 minutes if you get to this stage. On the day, look the part, be aware of your surroundings and practice your answers to feel prepared. Most of all, relax and be yourself.

DBS Checks

Some of our roles require a DBS check and they are processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) as part of the recruitment process. These checks are to assist employers in making safer recruitment decisions. However, a check is just one part of robust recruitment practice.

We know it can be time consuming to get this information if you don’t already have it to hand, so we encourage you to start preparing this information to avoid any delays to the onboarding process.
