Nuffield Health is the charity that’s building a healthier nation, one day at a time. From award‑winning hospitals and clinics to community and wellbeing programmes, our purpose is to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation.

We’re looking for a commercially minded, qualified finance professional to support our Hospital leadership team with high‑quality financial insight, analysis and decision support. In this role, you’ll sit at the heart of the Hospitals division, partnering closely with senior operational and finance leaders to improve performance, drive sustainable returns, and ensure investment delivers real value for our patients, members and communities.

This is a high‑impact role for someone confident operating at a senior level, with strong commercial judgement, analytical rigour and a passion for improving outcomes in a complex healthcare environment.

As the Commercial Finance Analyst – Hospitals, you will:

  • Deliver high‑quality commercial and financial insight to support the COO – Hospitals and Head of Finance – Hospitals in driving operational performance across the hospital portfolio.

  • Lead and deliver detailed financial analysis and deep dives into hospital sites, service lines, specialties or procedures, identifying risks, opportunities and performance improvement actions.

  • Support the hospital investment programme through robust forecasting, capex and cashflow analysis, ensuring accurate tracking of spend, commitments and returns.

  • Partner with Finance Business Partners, operational leaders and project teams to develop, challenge and review business cases and post‑investment reviews, assuring value delivery.

  • Build and maintain short‑ and long‑term financial models, including scenario and sensitivity analysis, to assess investment affordability, returns and risk.

  • Deliver accurate monthly trading, investment and performance forecasts, providing early visibility of variances to plan and approved business cases.

  • Develop and produce clear, insightful management information, KPIs and dashboards to support Trading Forums, Operations Business Reviews and governance over performance and investment delivery.

  • Act as a trusted adviser and “critical friend” to senior stakeholders, constructively challenging assumptions and supporting data‑driven decision‑making.

  • Continuously improve financial and investment reporting, data quality and insight, ensuring best use of charitable resources.

As the Commercial Finance Analyst – Hospitals, you’ll bring:

  • Full professional accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with circa 5+ years PQE and a strong academic background.

  • Proven experience in FP&A, commercial finance or finance business partnering within a complex operational environment.

  • Strong commercial analytics and financial modelling capability, with advanced Excel skills and high attention to detail.

  • Experience producing clear, actionable insight for senior stakeholders, with the confidence to challenge constructively.

  • A proactive, self‑starting mindset, with strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise for maximum impact.

  • Personal values aligned to clarity, transparency and fairness, with an energising and collaborative working style.

  • Experience in healthcare or large, multi‑site organisations is desirable but not essential.

You’ll enjoy working in a fast‑paced, operationally focused environment, balancing detail with big‑picture thinking and translating complex data into meaningful insight. Most importantly, you’ll be motivated by the opportunity to apply your financial expertise in a purpose‑driven charity, helping ensure our hospitals deliver sustainable performance and long‑term benefit for patients and communities.

Hints & Tips

Help with your application.

Once you’ve found the right role for you, you can apply online. All you need to do at this stage is submit your CV, a covering email, and a few personal details.

Our recruitment team screens all of the applications we receive. So, if they see that you’ve got the right sort of skills and experience needed for the role, your details will be passed on to the relevant hiring manager. Then, if you fit all the criteria at this stage, you’ll be invited to take part in a video, telephone or face-to-face interview.

CV

Think about the skills and qualities asked for in the job description and show how you’ve applied those same skills and qualities in other roles. Focus on the things that will make us want to see more of you.

Covering email

Your CV will contain details about why you’d be a good fit for the role, but it’s well worth adding a short, snappy paragraph pulling out the two or three most compelling reasons as to why you’d be perfect for the job in your covering email..

Video interview

The video interview lasts 15-20 minutes if you get to this stage. On the day, look the part, be aware of your surroundings and practice your answers to feel prepared. Most of all, relax and be yourself.

DBS Checks

Some of our roles require a DBS check and they are processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) as part of the recruitment process. These checks are to assist employers in making safer recruitment decisions. However, a check is just one part of robust recruitment practice.

Documents

You could be asked to provide proof of vaccinations as part of our Occupational Health pre-employment screening. We know it can be time consuming to get this information if you don’t already have it to hand, so we encourage you to start preparing this information to avoid any delays to the onboarding process.

Your current studies

If you are currently undertaking any strudies, education or apprenticeships, its worth noting there are some training provider we're not partnered with, and therefore potentially unable to support your continued learning. Ensure you share this at interview and for queries contact psc@nuffieldhealth.com
