Build a Healthier Nation – Starting with You

At Nuffield Health, we’re the UK’s largest healthcare charity with a mission to build a healthier nation. From award-winning hospitals and fitness centres to ground-breaking community programmes, we’re changing lives every day. To do this, we need people who share our passion for wellbeing, innovation, and quality.

We’re looking for a Director of Private Medical Insurance to lead our strategic relationships with the UK’s top insurance providers. In this high-impact role, you’ll drive long-term value through outstanding service, commercial innovation, and collaborative partnerships — ensuring that customers receive the best possible care.

About the Role

As Director of Private Medical Insurance, you’ll be the strategic lead for our insurer partnerships, setting the vision and managing performance across contracting, service delivery, and relationship development. You’ll work closely with leading insurers to deliver exceptional care solutions, while also identifying new opportunities to innovate and collaborate for mutual benefit.

You’ll also lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team to deliver excellence across all areas of client and partner engagement.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the strategic development of Private Medical Insurance partner relationships, driving growth and long-term value for both Nuffield Health and our partners.

  • Negotiate and oversee complex contracts to maximise commercial performance and mitigate risk.

  • Develop and execute strategic account plans for key Private Medical Insurance partners to ensure client satisfaction, retention, and expansion.

  • Identify and qualify new business opportunities, ensuring optimal pricing, delivery feasibility, and cross-functional alignment.

  • Shape new propositions and pricing models using insights from market trends, competitor intelligence, client feedback, and bid analysis.

  • Foster cross-functional collaboration, aligning internal priorities and driving integrated delivery across service lines.

  • Coach and develop a high-performing team, embedding a culture of accountability, innovation, and client excellence.

About You

We’re looking for a commercially astute, strategic thinker with strong leadership capability and a deep understanding of the insurance landscape.

You’ll bring:

  • A proven track record in commercial leadership and business development, ideally within healthcare or insurance

  • Experience leading senior-level teams with high revenue accountability

  • Strong strategic planning and execution skills, with the ability to influence and present at Board level

  • Exceptional stakeholder and relationship management skills, with a collaborative and client-focused mindset

  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and people development capabilities

  • A passion for customer experience, innovation, and delivering results

Help with your application.

Once you’ve found the right role for you, you can apply online. All you need to do at this stage is submit your CV, a covering email, and a few personal details.

Our recruitment team screens all of the applications we receive. So, if they see that you’ve got the right sort of skills and experience needed for the role, your details will be passed on to the relevant hiring manager. Then, if you fit all the criteria at this stage, you’ll be invited to take part in a video, telephone or face-to-face interview.

CV

Think about the skills and qualities asked for in the job description and show how you’ve applied those same skills and qualities in other roles. Focus on the things that will make us want to see more of you.

Covering email

Your CV will contain details about why you’d be a good fit for the role, but it’s well worth adding a short, snappy paragraph pulling out the two or three most compelling reasons as to why you’d be perfect for the job in your covering email..

Video interview

The video interview lasts 15-20 minutes if you get to this stage. On the day, look the part, be aware of your surroundings and practice your answers to feel prepared. Most of all, relax and be yourself.

DBS Checks

Some of our roles require a DBS check and they are processed through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) as part of the recruitment process. These checks are to assist employers in making safer recruitment decisions. However, a check is just one part of robust recruitment practice.

Documents

You could be asked to provide proof of vaccinations as part of our Occupational Health pre-employment screening. We know it can be time consuming to get this information if you don’t already have it to hand, so we encourage you to start preparing this information to avoid any delays to the onboarding process.

Your current studies

If you are currently undertaking any strudies, education or apprenticeships, its worth noting there are some training provider we're not partnered with, and therefore potentially unable to support your continued learning. Ensure you share this at interview and for queries contact psc@nuffieldhealth.com
