As a Risk and Assurance Lead, you’ll play a critical role in strengthening our governance and risk management framework. This role sits within our Legal team and works across hospitals, fitness and wellbeing sites, and central functions to support a consistent and effective risk and control environment. Reporting to the Head of Risk and Assurance, you’ll support the effective identification, assessment and management of the Charity’s principal and emerging risks, ensuring risks are clearly understood, actively managed, and aligned with our organisational risk appetite.

This is a highly visible role requiring credibility and expertise in audit, risk management, risk analysis and governance. You’ll work collaboratively across the organisation, supporting risk owners to strengthen risk management practices and contributing to the development of a consistent, organisation‑wide framework that enables reliable reporting for senior stakeholders, including the Executive Committee and Board Audit & Risk Committee.

As a Risk and Assurance Lead, you will:

  • Support delivery of the Internal Audit Programme and contribute to targeted reviews where they add insight into the effectiveness of risk management and key controls. Identify gaps in risk management arrangements and recommend practical improvements, supporting risk owners to embed and sustain change. Support the ongoing development and operation of the Charity’s risk management framework, ensuring it remains practical, proportionate and aligned with organisational objectives and risk appetite. Build strong relationships with risk and control owners, auditors, and other stakeholders to strengthen the control environment.

  • Provide clear, accurate and timely reporting that analyses what risk data is telling us, highlighting trends, movements and areas requiring management attention for senior management and governance committees. .

  • Support continuous improvement by integrating risk thinking into business processes and decision‑making and promoting a risk‑aware culture across the organisation. .

  • Maintain the Emerging Risk Register, supporting structured horizon scanning and analysis of external and internal risk drivers. .

  • Develop, monitor and interpret Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to highlight emerging trends, movements and areas of concern. .

To succeed as a Risk and Assurance Lead, you’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in delivering Internal Audit reviews.

  • Experience in risk management within complex organisations.

  • Strong understanding of risk frameworks and the use of assurance to inform risk‑based decision making. .

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

  • Analytical mindset and attention to detail, with a focus on practical solutions.

  • Experience in analysing risk information and reporting clearly to senior governance bodies. .

  • A collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

  • Ability to interpret and present risk and control data clearly.

  • Experience with risk or control management systems or tools (desirable).

  • Awareness of regulatory and governance requirements in health, wellbeing or charity environments, including clinical risk where applicable.

  • Experience of horizon scanning, emerging risk assessment, or KRIs (desirable).Experience of clinical risk management or working in clinically regulated environments (desirable).
