Building happier futures

"I first joined Nuffield Health two years ago as a cleaning supervisor and I found myself wanting to know more about how everything worked and how to fix a problem if one occurred.

One day I went to the plant room and started asking questions about pool tests. The site BSE explained the importance of pool maintenance and many other elements of the pool plant rooms to keep the swimming pool and whole building safe. I found it fascinating.

My manager, Nichola Bray, saw that I was enjoying fixing and maintaining things and very kindly offered the BSE Apprenticeship to me which I was so happy to accept.

Before I started the apprenticeship, I met with Mark Bradley of GLP, and had a good discussion about what is involved with the course to make sure it was right for me. I couldn’t wait to start.

Nuffield Health agreed to 20% of my work hours to be dedicated to my apprenticeship which is a massive help towards completing the course. So far, I have learnt some new electricity and IT skills and I'm looking forward to learning more about the plumbing side of the course. It’s a great course to be on if you want to learn a range of skills."

Daley’s General Manager, Nicola Bray told us:

"Joining the apprenticeship scheme has been such a great step for Daley. He has always been hard-working and showed great interest in understanding how the club works plant-wise, so when talking to him about his aspirations for the future, he expressed he'd love to do the BSE role but didn't have the qualifications.

For Nuffield to be able to support our team through the scheme is fantastic. The interview stage and the application part is important as it allows the team to fully understand the extent of the work needed and the time and dedication so it is fully transparent.

I think the apprenticeship scheme is great for mapping out the long-term future success of any team across the club and the amount of new courses now available to support our team is brilliant.”

““It’s a great course to be on if you want to learn a range of skills."”
